New Radio Show to Confront Issues by: Bill Liblick
As many of you have heard by now, I will be hosting a new weekend call-in radio show on Talk 1240 WVOS-AM, Saturdays and Sundays from 9 am to 1 pm, beginning tomorrow. The show will hopefully compliment my weekly column in The Sullivan County Democrat.
When I was approached to do the radio show, I immediately felt that it would provide a new forum for Sullivan County residents to voice their opinions on issues facing us, and facilitate much needed dialogue.
The response to my column has been diverse to say the least. There are those who support every word I write, and then there are others who quickly denounce me. Maybe I touch on some nerves? But, it is “all good,” because it invites conversation on matters that concern us, and makes one analyze what I have to say. The emails, phone calls, and letters I receive on a weekly basis confirm that.
Deep down we all desire what is best for Sullivan County and its future, I don’t think any of us want to see our county fail. Our approach may vary, but optimistically I trust our goals do not.
It has been and continues to be an honor to be able to express my opinions on a weekly basis on the editorial pages of Sullivan County’s most respected newspaper The Sullivan County Democrat. My new radio show will enable further conversation, and with any bit of luck, get you involved too. Communications is key, and that is what I intend to provide.
I might be highly opinioned, confrontational, often critical, and “In Your Face.” Nonetheless, I am also aware of all the good that is happening in Sullivan County, and sensitive to others.
Of course the show will evolve over time and change its focus as events warrant.
The “Movers and Shakers” of Sullivan County will be invited to discuss important issues. They will be heard whether I agree with them or not.
Topics covered will be tackled and rationalized with reasoning and understanding. My approach will not just be to place labels, such as “Democrat or Republican,” “Liberal or Conservative,” or “Good or Bad.”
I will not be there just to push buttons. It is my intent that along with your participation we will find some resolution and solution to our tribulations. Hopefully the out come from our lively discussions will provide alternatives, and suggestions to make life better in Sullivan County.
Candidates seeking political office will have a new public outlet to debate, and answer questions from the voting public. We will be a watchdog and monitor those who represent us.
Akin to my column, topics covered on the show will include subject matters that are a concern to every resident and taxpayer in Sullivan County.
Economic Development, the SPCA, Employment Opportunities, Tax Exempt Properties, Catskill Regional Medical Center, Indian Casino Gaming, Education, Sullivan County Community College, Crime, Youth Gangs, Social Service Programs, Housing, Foie Gras Production, Windmills, the Charter Revision, and of course the Legislature, Government and Politics, will be among the subject matters we will tackle.
The latest local news in Sullivan County, with a slant on how it affects us, will also be highlighted and discussed.
With an open exchange of opinions and ideas we can all make a difference. I hope you will join me tomorrow morning for the launch of Bill Liblick – The Mouth That Roars, on Talk 1240 WVOS-AM radio.
